Do I need a anti-static wrist strap to work in a computer?
I have a big ruber floor matt that I could use. Is it possible that that would keep static away from me while I work in the computer.
An anti-static wrist strap would only be of help to you, if the mat was actually grounded itself and your work space. You can get by without. Sit on a hard floor (rubber is not needed) and not on carpet. Discharge yourself of electrostatic energy by touching something metal before working on your computer. Make sure you do not use any metal around any plug ins and circuit boards on the computer with clean hands. Everything should be OK.
