The Importance of High Visibility Trousers for Safety
High visibility trousers are necessary if you employ staff during night hours. As an employer, it is your responsibility to act appropriately for the safety and security of your employees. Moreover, this kind of clothing will be beneficial for the company. It can be custom-made with your company logo printed or embroidered on it. It can be useful when you employ huge number of workers at a site or factory. Sometimes, several contractors work on the same project or site at the same time, and the number of workers becomes huge. * Protection – Hi vis trousers offer personal protection since they help avoid mishaps. They are commonly known as PPE, or personal protection equipment, garments. PPE not only includes clothing, but also accessories and headgear like hats, caps, backpacks, safety glasses and other items. The idea is to stand out from the background; it is like a safety uniform.
* General utility – Apart from factory workers and other employees who work in dangerous conditions, high visibility trousers can be useful for the public too. They are especially recommended for bikers and cyclists. Though not originally designed for this use, this kind of clothing has prevented highway accidents.
* Standardization – This special clothing has to comply with the guidelines of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, has set mandatory regulations and industry standards. Employers are expected to follow the guidelines set by ANSI. ANSI has revised its standards since 1999 when they were first introduced. The standards have been revised twice, once in 2004 and again in 2006. The clothing also needs to comply with the British Standard for high visibility clothing. It should pass the EN471 high visibility specifications. There are three levels of protection under this regulatory body. A European Commission directive also covers this kind of clothing. There is one more regulatory body, the Canadian Standard for high visibility clothing. It is known as CSA – Z96.
* Uses of high visibility trousers – There are many users for this kind of clothing, including, to name a few, construction workers, bicyclists, emergency responders, paramedics, fire fighters, equestrians, first aid workers, fishermen, hunters, linemen, motorcyclists, parking attendants, rail workers, surveyors and police.
