Analyzer Hbf
bmi questions:…what’s wrong?
i’m an athlete that trains 5 days a week…
i have a little bmi machine (one that you hold; made by a company by omron: the omron body Fat Analyzer hbf-306)
when i set the settings in the machine, i put in the following perameters:
sex: female
normal or athlete mode: athlete
height: 5′7
weight: 128 lbs
age: 28
the machine comes back with a response of:
15.9 % fat
20.1 bmi
the question that i’m asking is: although i’m listed as ‘normal’, isn’t 16% Body Fat quite low? when i weighed less (more or less 125 lbs) the machine registered 13%, still ‘normal’… does it have something to do with me being an athlete? i’ve heard that women lose their monthly cycle if they dip under 13%… doesn’t seem ‘normal’– is there something wrong with the machine?
Other than to dunk your body in a huge tank of water and measure the displacement against your BMI, there is no truely accurate way to measure you body fat %. These gadgets are created to help motivate us to get/stay in shape. If you are concerned that your body fat is too low, then make an appointment to see your doctor, but if your BMI is right around 20, you are in Great Shape, and I wouldn’t worry too much about what your little machine says.
