I have not heard that version before. I'm not sure, but the risk guesswork: the preceding verse makes reference to reduce the husband's beard. The following is a poem of husband asking if you want to scald him, and the note says that a pudding boiled in water. So I * think * they want to humiliate the husband to shave it, is one of the robbers want to know to shave him in the water and the other proposes to use the hot water in the pudding.
