question about a RED BELT in TKD?
what does a red belt mean?
is that an advanced belt?
when a student earns his red belt the right way (not by just paying and showing up to class 3 times a week) does that mean he is advanced in the art and will be able to defend himself in the streets?
or is he likely to lack skill ?

Please disregard the above comment from another person. Anyone who says something like this has no idea of what TKD involves other than what they’ve seen on Youtube.
Belts vary depending on your school, but normally a red belt is an intermediate level student. He probably has studied for at least a year or two and has a year or two to go before reaching black belt…assuming he keeps up regularly.
Such a person will know basic kick and punch attacks as well as a few defenses. More importantly, they should know self constraint and ability to avoid an unnecessary fight. Thus, they should be able to avoid and/or defend against a common untrained street fighter.
