Folding Chairs Are Not A New Concept
Folding chairs are simple and efficient in both design and space saving. Hardly any office, home, or school is without the use of one of these remarkably durable seating ideas. From the patio, to the garden, and from a funeral to a graduation, these chairs are easily brought out from storage and put in place to accommodate seating arrangements for most any function or gathering.
If you go shopping for some of these uniquely made items, you will find that the two most common materials used to make them, are metal and plastic. But when it comes to different styles, with cushions, without cushions, triple braced or not, then you are going to see what a wide variety there is to choose from.
The color choice is another thing. Of course this should be easy as long as you know what you are going to use the chairs for. But they come in most any color, and with your choice of a round back, or with a square back. The many different types of wood used to make some of these is remarkable. You can get pine, oak, mahogany, natural wood, Black Wood, and loads of other woods. This list just keeps on rolling.
For places like a school or an office that has frequent use of these chairs, and wants to store them somewhere on the facility, there are racks made for storing and easy transport. Some are made to stack the chairs on, and others are more of a hanging type storage. But they come on rollers and can easily be moved in and out of whatever place they need to be stored in. They are known as chair caddies.
For temporary seating these chairs are give great service. Funerals and graduations are two good examples. Another fine feature these chairs have is that they are lightweight. On average they may weigh, depending on what they are made of, and what type they are, anywhere from five up to ten pounds.
Fredric Arnold is the man who is responsible for making the first aluminum one. It used fabric for its backing and seat, and in this was back in the year 1947. This was not the first folding chair, just the first aluminum one. By 1957, he had his own company and was putting out over 14,000 a day. In reality, though, these chairs date all the way back to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans.
Most all of us can picture those scenes behind the making of movies, and the director sitting in his chair. These chairs have made their way into our culture, and seem to be here to stay. Unlike the directors model, some are quite sophisticated in their designs. The ancient wooden ones had intricate carvings in them with significant characters and meaning. These chairs are a testament to beauty and elegance, and can always be found to enhance any decor.
Folding chairs are a time tested idea, but they also have come a long way as far as material and design. For good solid support and service, and for convenience, they have no rivals. If you like to fish and hunt, then no doubt you have seen the convenience they provide in those areas. They truly are an American tradition, and a credit to a how a simple idea, born of convenience, can enhance our culture.
