How does the Amateur and Pro Boxing Systems work?
What I mean is, how do I turn Amateur? Are there requirements? If so what are these requirements? Also how do I turn Pro? Basically, what do I have to do to turn Amatuer and eventually Pro? When you turn pro do you get a money bonus? Just explain all you know on this subject. I know its alot but i will award the best answer. THANKS
To turn amateur you have to register with USA Boxing, and get what we call in amateur boxing, “your book”. it cost about 25 or 30 bucks per year, and you renew it every January, and it gets you $2500 insurance in case you get hurt while boxing or in training. The “book” will let you go to tournaments and compete. the requirements are you just buying your book and i think you have to have a trainer, but not too sure on that one. and i think they just started requiring physicals too. But just join a boxing club and give the book to your trainer. In the amateurs there are weight classes, so you will be required to make weight just like in the pros. To turn pro, you just pay a fee and take a test i believe to get a card saying your pro. Not sure if you get a bonus for turning pro, unless a promoter see’s the potential you have while being an amateur, and wants to take you under his wing when you turn pro. a lot of pros have good amateur careers, and that’s how they move up the pro rankings quickly.
