Some questions about the hospital bag..?
So I know what to put in the hospital bag. I just am curious what type of bag. I know it really doesn’t matter, as long as I have everything I need. But at first I said I would just use his diaper bag. Well, after packing it all up, I don’t seem to have enough room. Would it be stupid to use a duffel bag, or like a gym bag? I will probably end up doing that. If I do use a duffel bag or gym bag, do I still take the diaper bag? Just curious to see different opinions. What Did You do? Or what are you planning on doing? Any information on what type of bag is best, and if I need to bring the diaper bag along would be helpful. I also have a separate bag for my belongings. It is smaller, so I could probably put my things in the duffel bag as well. Is there a limit on how many bags you can take? Thanks in advance!
I took a small rolling suitcase for me and my husband. I packed baby’s stuff in a personalized little duffel bag that I received as a shower gift. It was about the size of a regular gym bag. I also took pillows and a fan. I was induced and then had to stay in the hospital for 3 days (I knew this ahead of time as I had pre-eclampsia) so I took EVERYTHING that I thought I would need to keep me comfortable. The hospital didn’t care and I don’t think most have a limit on what you can bring. As far as a diaper bag, you don’t need to bring certain things for baby… the hospital provides diapers (unless you are using cloth), wipes, and formula (if you don’t plan to breastfeed). They also provide clothes for baby, though I brought my own. I highly recommend taking a baby nail file. My daughter was born with monster claws and the hospital didn’t have anything to help. I put mittens on her but didn’t like leaving them on all the time.
For yourself, the hospital will provide pads (and you will likely need to gigantic ones that they provide), cleansing items, disinfectant (to spray on your “area”) and any pain meds. I recommend bringing plenty of snacks for you and any birthing partner. The hospital food was awful and I felt a little queasy for the first 2 days and didn’t want gross food.
Anyway.. take what you want and don’t worry about a limit.
