Decorating With Matelasse
Matelasse originated in France as the word for cushioned or padded and is double-woven for a quilt-like texture. Woven on the loom to create the raised design the Matelasse design will never wash out and only becomes more beautiful and raised after washing. Matelasse fabric is specially woven using 100% pure cotton. Feels soft to the touch, your Matelasse coverlet will never loose its shape and will become softer and silkier with every washing.
Thread count: Due to the fact that a Matelasse coverlet is a double weave jacquard cloth, it has an extremely high thread count, thus it is very durable and its beauty is long lasting, creating an heirloom quality.
Matelasse is produced in Portugal where the workmanship has long been known for finer yarns, first rate cutting and sewing and attention to detail.
How to Decorate with Matelasse: Matelasse bed covers can be used in many decorative or functional ways.
As a lightweight top cover of a bed as an alternative to a quilt or comforter. The Matelasse bed cover creates beautiful total bed attire.
Layered under a quilt or comforter, to be used as a lightweight blanket (used primarily this way in Europe) or as a “designer” touch to dressing the bed.
Use it layered at the bottom of the bed with a quilt or comforter, adding an extra touch to accessorizing.
It can be layered over the top of a down comforter, adding additional warmth and protecting the life of the down comforter by keeping it clean and protected.
Many consumers prefer a Matelasse cover as an alternative to a comforter cover as it is easier to remove and launder frequently.
